On to Day Two. Again I woke up early, as I typically do when I know I’m playing poker in the morning. After Day One, I decided it would be best for me to just play 7-Card Stud all day, to maximize my winnings. So I headed out to the Commerce Casino. I sit down in a game that looks fairly passive, which is how I like it. I prefer to be the most aggressive player at the table, whenever I can.
For the first hour or so, I couldn’t win a pot. I got some decent starting hands, but they either didn’t hold up or didn’t materialize. I was pretty tight with my betting, however, and somehow managed to only lose $70 through the flurry of bad beats and tough lay-downs. Finally, I won a smallish pot, and then a few more to get almost back to even. Then I went way down again, and I was forced to re-buy.
I decided to change tables, because I had a losing table image. This turned out to be a good move in the short term, as I picked a few pots, made my money back and actually went up about $50. Then came a huge hand where I made Kings over 5s on 4th St. A guy bet and raised me all the way to the river with a pair of 7s, and paired his Ace kicker on 6th St. to give him Aces up. I lost a lot of money on that hand, and I blew up at him. I called him a donkey, as well as some more … explicit names that I will refrain from mentioning. Lets just say that I thoroughly berated him. I finished the day with a string of three more bad beats, and went home crying.
Well, not exactly crying. It was more like cursing – cursing everything from my poor luck to the dealers I had that day. There isn’t much else to tell.
Lesson for Day Two of my Tax Holiday Rampage? Sometimes it’s just not your day.
So, overall I didn’t have as much fun as I had hoped. It was a lot of hard work, and I ended up dead even on the weekend. I guess I’m not ready to quit my day job, after all.
