You played so well last month ...

... so why did you still break even?

I know how you feel. I know that you are generally a solid poker player. I know that you have talent, and skill, and knowledge of the game. I know that when you sit down at an average poker table, chances are you will likely be one of the better players.

I know you're good.

So why can't you win any money over the long run? Why are you only breaking even?

Ever hear the saying "A Penny Saved is a Penny Earned"? The same thing goes for your poker bankroll. Money not lost is the same as money won.

I got this one from Mike Caro (a.k.a. the Mad Genius of Poker), who happens to be my favorite poker writer. The first part of the article is about choosing the right game. The second part explains the importance of avoiding large losses.

Read it, and weep no more.

Or at least, not as often.
